Unlike the CE, the four strokes alternately occur, as shown in the figure, within the limits established by the trochoid wall surfaces of the rotor housing, with the result that the temperature differences along the circumference vary greatly.

Therefore, to reduce the coolant temperature and maintain a thereto balance, various coolant passages are used, as shown in the figure below.
Heat from the "hot zone" is first absorbed by the coolant and this heated coolant is circulated through the "cold zone" to balance the internal temperatures.
